Middle-aged men are often forgotten about in the weight loss industry. Too often weight loss programs focus on the needs of women and leave older men out of the equation. As an older man, I struggled to find a weight loss program that was not centered around women and their needs. Men usually don't talk about their body image and self esteem issues the same way women do. It was not until I confronted my negative feelings that I began to deal with what was preventing me from losing all the extra weight I was carrying.

Weight loss for middle-aged men is not any more difficult than weight loss for women, however men and women are dynamically different. While men and women may be physically similar, psychologically we are worlds apart. Through my dieting I found that men don't like to talk about how their weight effects them. We are very good at keeping everything inside. This is where I tapped into my negativity and spun it into a motivational machine.

I found that the fears about my health and well being were the most important motivational tool to keep me on track. I tapped into my fear of illness and the onset of obesity which helped me to focus on my goal of losing weight. I wasn't obese yet but I was dangerously close. Just the fear of being labeled obese was enough for me to change my attitude and set me on the path of a healthier lifestyle.

Another motivator I found, was the new body image I would soon have at the end of my transformation. Knowing that I could go to the beach without worrying what people thought of me had a profound impact on my success. I would not have been successful with my weight loss if I did not dig into how I felt about my self.

Although weight loss for middle-aged men is something millions of us struggle with, we may never see a diet program designed just for us. The good news is there are diets that will suit us better than others and finding one is not as hard as you may think.

I lost 45 pounds in less than six months using a diet system that was simple and easy to follow. I believe it was the one that made the difference between me losing weight and failing again. It is important to remember that unless you are committed and motivated, there is not a diet program out there for you.
